Pithiviers, City on the way to Santiago de Compostela.
22 kilometers from the Parc de La Chesnaie, on the borders of Beauce and Gâtinais
Pithiviers is a charming town on the way to Santiago de Compostela, hence its rise from the 12th century. It was also a stopover for the kings of France on their way to the castles of La Loire in the Middle Ages.
To get to know Pithiviers better, follow the points which retrace the history of the town and which mark the main stages:
- The Château de Bellecour from the 17th century
- The remains of the Collegiate Church of Saint-Georges
- The Saint-Salomon-Saint-Grégoire church and its remarkable bell and its great organ
Do not miss the visit to the Museum of Transport and Touristic Railway, accompanied by an original trip aboard an old steam train, like in the days of the Belle Époque!
In Pithiviers, food lovers and gourmets will enjoy two local specialities:
- Lark pâté and Bondaroy cheese with hay
The “Pithiviers”, famous cake, enriched with almonds and covered with an icing decorated with candied fruit… A delight!
Gingerbread, land of cereals, sugar beets and honey dictates…
